Chinese New Year – The Snake

It was amazing to photograph the Chinese Lunar New Year in Sheffield Yesterday. It’s the commencement of the year of the snake. There was entertainment all afternoon long including dancing dragons, singers, costume displays, musicians and acrobats. There were market stalls and the street food was first class too. The perfect opportunity to practice my street photography which is something I rarely do. A highly recommended day out, it’s already in my diary for 2026. Did I mention that it was free to attend? Using my oldie rail card it was quite cheap to get there are well.

I took with my lovely Nikon ZFC. It’s small, lightweight and unobtrusive. A camera I can carry with me all day without getting too tired. Along with the Nikon DX 50 to 250 lens think it did an excellent job.

The photos were helped by the good natural light yesterday and the stage having a black background. This helped the performers look good and avoided the normal clutter you get at outdoor events.
