Water from a Bottle

Do you like my waterscapes? At least they look like water I hope. I shall let you in on a secret – they are not photographs or paintings of water. But they are photographs. Can you guess what they are and how I made these pictures? These are creative photography and I am moving more towards it and further away from the type of straight photography I wrote about in yesterday’s piece of the Chinese New Year.

This first set is made up of 16 images all of which are square. Further down you will see a set of nine in landscape format? Which do you prefer?

Method

These are very close up macro images taken looking into vintage glass bottles. Most are multiple exposures so it’s a little bit from one area and a little bit of one or more all layered together. These were taken for part of a creativity course I was doing through the Royal Photographic Society with Jonathan Vaines as the teacher. I think these were possibly my favourite achievement of the year and they are now proudly displayed on my office wall.

False Horizons

The line in the image below there is a curving line that looks a bit like the horizon. It is actually the curve you see when looking to the base of a glass bottle. My vintage bottle collection is mainly blue, green and aqua in colour as so was ideally suited to this subject. You can pick similar bottles up in junk shops and car boot sales for very little money. I find the more worn they were the better for my purposes.
